Summary

ValidaTek is seeking a Technical Writer to support an exciting new program for Soft Switch Backbone (SSBB) Modernization (SSBM) for DISA. This is a brand new program to design, engineer, and deliver a modernized SSBB to replace the current operational SSBB that has reached end-of-life.  This program will provide all engineering and related support necessary to develop an SIP (Session Initiated Protocol)-based policy engine routing solution that can ensure continuity of operations in the event of a single policy engine and/or SBC failure. Support for this effort is largely remote with occasional on-site support at DISA HQ, Ft. Meade, MD. 

 

Designs, develops, writes and edits, and implements complex technical or scientific material, including reports, manuals, briefs and related technical and scientific publications in print or electronic media. Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and government specifications and standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style. Participates in the establishment of style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations.

Responsibilities

  • Studies production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and details
  • Studies blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
  • Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Arranges for typing, duplication, and distribution of material
  • May oversee activities of less-experiences personnel and strategize with management to determine the most effective form of presentation for reports, manuals, briefs, etc
  • May assist in laying out material for publication
  • May write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience, or a combination of equivalent experience and training
  • Active DOD Secret clearance
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on technical documentation
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical content for technical audiences
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall
  • Experienced managing the documenting processes and version control of documentation
  • Experience working on many documents at once
  • Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong visual, written, and verbal communication and must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Project, Visio, etc.)
  • Prior experience in a technical field, experience working with software products, or familiarity with technical writing processes, business writing, and other disciplines
  • Experience preparing technical project documentation for DoD - preferred

  • Experience working on a software development team supporting the Federal Government - preferred.
